They are to be applied on the tray and the patient is to wear the trays over night for a certain period leading to a change in shade. How ever it is very important that the trays are made by a professional and proper instructions are followed otherwise the bleaching gel can go onto the gums and cause burning, ulcers etc. However the results obtained with the home bleach are very mild and limited and not very drastic.
